Kathi Maddox

Secretary

Tell us something about yourself.

I was born and raised in California. My husband Lon and I raised two kids then moved to Kauai in 2003. I did a lot of volunteer work for thirty years in California and Kauai. On Kauai it was either the beach or the racquetball club for me.

How did you start playing pickleball?

When racquetball left the island, I re-tried tennis and then badminton. Then Jack Hodges brought pickleball to us, and found that was the game for me.

What do you like most about pickleball?

It’s a good workout and it’s fun. It’s social. I love the bang-bang and enjoy the chatter between players. I play at least 4 times a week.

Why do you serve as Secretary of PAK?

Volunteering must be in my DNA. I accepted the board position because I was part of the original ad-hoc committee formed two years ago to get better playing conditions for pickleball. It was a good idea then, and now with the growing number of players is even more important. I like the deadline for accomplishing our mission: In our lifetime!
